From Seafood Idea Into Tuna Republic

THE SWEETEST fruits of success are born from the most humble beginnings. For Shiella Bautista Aranas, the journey to becoming one of the most celebrated Filipina entrepreneurs of her generation isn’t a fairy tale story. It’s a result of sheer grit, unshakable faith, and deep love for Filipino culture.

Her story is a testament to how the humble local tuna—a staple of the Philippine seas—could be transformed into a business empire nourishing both communities and the nation’s entrepreneurial spirit.

TUNA REPUBLIK

In 2016, Shiella and her husband Jerome Cesar Aranas, started a modest eatery (karinderya) in San Francisco, Agusan del Sur, on the island of Mindanao.

With a vision to elevate everyday tuna dishes like panga, tuna sisig, and kinilaw, they aimed to provide affordable yet high-quality seafood to local communities. Combining her visionary leadership with her husband’s operational support, their small eatery operated on what they lovingly called the T.U.N.A. story — “Tale of Unshakable Nerve and Action”.

From its inception, the business steadily expanded to multiple locations across the country, including bustling cities in Visayas and Luzon, effectively adapting the fast-casual dining model.

Today, Tuna Republik operates a thriving chain of branches and proves that local seafood concepts can be highly scalable and franchise-friendly.

GOING DIGITAL

What sets Shiella apart as a modern entrepreneur is her mastery of digital marketing and social media. Understanding that online presence is vital for brick-and-mortar businesses, she cultivated an active, engaging social media strategy.

By showcasing the “affordelicious” menu, sharing behind-the-scenes glimpses of her hardworking staff, and posting inspiring updates, she turned Tuna Republik into a highly recognizable and beloved brand nationwide.

BEACON OF EXCELLENCE

Shiella’s impact goes far beyond her impressive revenue and franchise growth.

Her dedication to uplifting local communities and empowering women in business recently earned her a prestigious recognition as an Inspiring Filipina Entrepreneur by Go Negosyo.

Honored alongside other top business leaders in the Philippines, she serves as a shining example of how women power communities and economies.

Furthermore, she was recognized as a Successful Woman Entrepreneur by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

GENUINE SERVICE

Shiella Aranas’ trajectory from the quiet towns of Mindanao to the national stage is more than just a business triumph. It is a profound beacon of hope for aspiring entrepreneurs everywhere.

Her journey proves that when a dream is paired with hard work, a heart for genuine service, and digital savviness, the possibilities are limitless.

As she continues to expand Tuna Republik, her story reminds every Filipino that with resilience and the right vision, one can turn simple, everyday blessings into a nationwide movement of empowerment and success.

The taste of home is a powerful anchor, but for millions of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), it is a distant longing. For years, she lived that reality—navigating the challenges of working abroad, fueled only by grit and the quiet hope of one day returning home for good.

Sheilla didn’t just return. She conquered.

FILIPINO RESILIENCE

What started as a restless dream in a foreign land blossomed into a culinary revolution on Philippine shores.

Today, Shiella is the celebrated Founder and President of Tuna Republik, a widespread seafood franchise that transformed a simple local concept into a multi-million-peso empire.

Her journey is a masterclass in resilience, proving that with enough heart, even the smallest homegrown ideas can scale to unimaginable heights.

FROM OFW ROOTS

Shiella’s entrepreneurial journey is fundamentally rooted in the OFW experience. Leaving the country to seek better opportunities, she faced the familiar isolation and tireless work ethic shared by modern-day Filipino heroes.

However, her ultimate goal was always sustainable repatriation.

In 2016, alongside her husband and co-founder Jerome (popularly known as J CO Aranas), she transitioned from the corporate diaspora to local enterprise.

Recognizing the untapped potential of affordable, high-quality seafood in the domestic market, the power couple launched Tuna Republik, embarking on a corporate journey aptly referred to as the T.U.N.A. Story—a literal and metaphorical acronym for their Tale of Unshakable Nerve and Ambition.

AFFORDELICIOUS FRANCHISE

Tuna Republik disrupted the local food and beverage landscape by pioneering the concept of “affordelicious” dining—democratizing access to premium tuna dishes that were traditionally reserved for high-end restaurants.

Strategic Sourcing: Shiella anchored the supply chain around fresh, sustainable local catches, supporting provincial fishermen.

Franchise Pivot: Recognizing that a single branch limits reach, they developed a rigorous, highly scalable replication model that allowed everyday investors to open their own local franchises.

Digital-First Branding: Shiella leveraged a powerful social media presence to showcase their dynamic food culture, building an active community of loyal digital advocates.

From its humble initial setup, Tuna Republik aggressively expanded across key regions, establishing a highly visible footprint from Agusan del Sur and Cagayan de Oro to key hubs nationwide.

MULTI RECOGNITION

The business community has taken heavy notice of Shiella’s rapid corporate ascent.

Her strategic leadership has earned major institutional accolades: Successful Woman Entrepreneur (2025): Awarded by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) – Agusan del Sur during the Provincial Women’s Congress for her exceptional economic contributions to the province.

Inspiring Filipina Entrepreneur (2026): Honored on a grand national stage by Go Negosyo during the Go Negosyo Women Summit 2026. This award celebrates her unwavering passion, fearless leadership, and ability to uplift micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

DREAM BIGGER

Shiella Aranas’ story is more than a commercial victory; it is a blueprint for the modern Filipino dream.

She has shattered the invisible ceiling that dictates how far a local seafood concept can go, transforming a provincial staple into a national standard of excellence.

Through her triumph, she sends a roaring message to every OFW looking out a window in a foreign city, and every aspiring entrepreneur facing adversity at home: your roots are not a limitation; they are your competitive edge.

By mixing unwavering faith with unshakeable nerve, Shiella Aranas has proven that when a Filipina dares to cast her net wide, she can move the tides of an entire nation.
