BAGUIO CITY is grieving, says Mayor Benjamin Magalong as search and rescue teams failed to retrieve people buried under mud and rock boulders following a landslide in Barangay Guisad Surong.
According to the city government’s public information office, the death toll in the landslide has reached eight as of the three survivors died while undergoing treatment in the hospital.
The PIO in a statement assured that search, rescue and retrieval operations will continue as three more people remain missing.
Local authorities said the landslide buried three houses at around 7:00 Sunday night amid continuous heavy rains. It struck three houses and affected five families.
Residents in nearby high-risk areas have already been evacuated.
In a related development, the local government chief said that 13 other landslides have been recorded in other parts of Baguio City.
“That’s the 14th one. And it’s not over yet. We’ll likely receive more reports today,” Magalong quipped.
