INQUIRER HEADLINE: “BONOAN: ‘ALL SENATORS’ GOT SHARE OF ‘LEADERSHIP FUND’.”
Whoa, how about the Congressmen? What’s the truth? It looks like the truth has always been that: all, or more likely, the majority of the country’s public officials, particularly from the President Bongbong Marcos and VP Sara Duterte down particularly to the senators and congressmen, are corrupt and self-serving, contrary to their mandate to serve the people, by complying with the Constitution and the Rule of Law at all times!
This seems to be the painful truth for the Filipino people, as their money that serves to fund the operations of the government’s plans and programs to uplift the lives of all Filipinos, especially the estimated 60 million poor, vulnerable and marginalized Filipinos, only goes to the personal pockets of the majority of the government officials, especially from the president (given that he gives the final approval of the country’s yearly budget) down to the senators and congressmen, and perhaps up to the lowliest LGU elected official.
“Former Public Works Secretary Manuel Bonoan told the Sandiganbayan on Wednesday that ‘all senators’ in the previous Congress availed themselves of at least P500 million each from the ‘leadership fund’ allotted by his agency under its 2025 budget…In his judicial affidavit, Bonoan said P24 billion in total was allocated for senators… There is nothing wrong (with this set-up).”
Do all these “facts” revealed by former DPWH secretary Manuel Bonoan, himself facing various crimes against the Filipino people, believable, thus the terrible mess the country is suffering from today?
WE’RE IN TROUBLE
With the record of how the country and the Filipino people were literally screwed (to be blunt about it) since 2016, since the ICC jailbird Rodrigo Roa Duterte became president in 2016, and shamelessly carried out his main brutal program of “War on Drugs – extra judicial killings (EJKs), numbering more than 30,000 Filipinos, we definitely are in terribly big trouble!
And worse, now with the continuing myriad societal problems, especially the EJKs, enforced disappearances and harassments by the AFP/PNP, egged on with the NTF-ELCAC’s illegal red/terrorist-tagging of activists and development workers, the Filipino people’s woes seem to be unending.
Given, in particular, under an irreconcilable acrimonious divided leadership of President Bongbong Marcos and VP Sara Duterte, it looks like the country’s budget is the sweet bait, (as among sharks in the wide-open sea) serving as the main target for every senator to get his/her share of the boot, financed by their constituents—the Filipino people! We wonder how the congressmen are taking this blockbuster confession by former DPWH secretary Manuel Bonoan.
PUBLIC TRUST BETRAYED
But for the Filipino people, these anti-people decisions and actions by the country’s top public officials are certainly anathema – a betrayal of the people’s trust, if not a traitorous act against the Filipino people. The Filipino people can only shake their heads and sadly wonder when such abominable self-serving actions by the top public officials will honestly eschew them, and initiate corrective measures to save face and humbly accept their sins against the people, and be truly be of service to the people.
At the rate the president, the vice-president, the senators and congressmen, including the Supreme Court and the judicial branch of government have been performing the past months, and the past years, since the killer ICC jailbird came to power in 2016, the people will probably be forced “ad nauseam” to go to the streets to air their ever-multiplying grievances to their heartless public officials!
Indeed, when will the Filipino people finally enjoy a Philippines that will truly be called “a just and humane society”?
