P10K Wage Increase For Teachers, Sought

WITH an election less than two years away, a sitting senator mounted a call seeking a whopping P10,000 across-the-board increase in the basic monthly salary of all public elementary and secondary school teachers.

In filing Senate Bill 335, Sen. JV Ejercito cited the urgent need to grant an additional P10,000 to public school teachers in basic monthly salary — regardless of the length of service.

According to Ejercito, it’s high time for the government to realize that public school teachers have been going an extra mile while facing economic hardships themselves.

“Being a teacher is not easy. They bear a heavy responsibility, yet often make significant sacrifices to fulfill their duties. That is why it is time for us to better show our appreciation for them through a salary increase,” Ejercito said

“Every day, our teachers do more than just teach. They prepare lessons, check papers, compile reports, and above all, they care for and guide our students. We see their hard work and sacrifices,” he added.

The lawmaker cited the urgent need for the government to invest in the country’s education system, starting with improving teachers’ economic welfare.

“We cannot achieve quality education if the people on its front lines continue to struggle with their livelihood,” he averred.
