The historic Calle Real will come alive on August 28–30 with the Fiesta sa Calle Real Night Market, one of the highlights of Iloilo City’s 89th Charter Day celebration, organized by the MICE Center Iloilo City. The market runs from 5:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., offering food, drinks, local finds, unique products, lifestyle treats and plenty of reasons to stroll.
Calle Real, officially J.M. Basa Street, is one of Iloilo’s most historic streets. Once the city’s main commercial and shopping center, it is now a heritage zone filled with old Neoclassical, Beaux-Arts and Art Deco buildings—essentially, Iloilo’s past standing proudly while today’s generation shops beneath it.
And that is what makes the night market more than just another food bazaar.
It is heritage with a side of dinner.
Visitors can shop, chill, eat, discover local products and experience Ilonggo culture in the very streets where generations of Ilonggos once traded and gathered. Previous Calle Real night markets have already shown how food, arts, local entrepreneurs and heritage can successfully share the same space, attracting thousands of visitors and generating millions in sales for local businesses.
As Mayor Raisa Treñas puts it, “In Iloilo, we always uplift our tradition because this is the Ilonggo heritage.”
And perhaps that is Iloilo’s secret: you don’t have to choose between the past and the present.
