PERSEVERANCE pays for detained Senator Jinggoy Estrada who somehow managed to ‘walk out’ of jail — but only for less than an hour.
According to Dr. Jose Fernando Syquia, Sen. Estrada arrived at the Cardinal Santos Medical Center in San Juan City at around 3:50 Wednesday afternoon.
In an ambush interview, Syquia claimed that Estrada’s knee snapped after getting up from a seated position. The detained senator then began complaining of severe pain and difficulty in walking.
He however warded off reports that Estrada’s knee injury was caused by a slip in the bathroom.
Estrada, who has previously asked the Sandiganbayan that he be allowed to stay in the hospital over joint effusion osteoarthritis, reportedly rated the pain at 9.5 out of 10 while being driven from the Quezon City Jail to the hospital.
At the Cardinal Santos Medical Center, Estrada was initially given medication to manage the pain. He was brought back to the Quezon City Jail later at around 4:25 in the afternoon of the same day.
Syquia said it was too early to determine the appropriate treatment for Estrada, as the senator’s lawyers would first discuss their options, including a possible appeal before the Sandiganbayan.
Estrada is facing a plunder case over alleged “intricate mechanism involving illegal budgetary insertions and project allocations” within the Department of Public Works and Highways’ infrastructure portfolio for fiscal year 2025, worth P573 million.
