FROM how it looks, the slugfest between the prosecution and defense panels isn’t limited to legal arguments. It’s a matter of who gets to convince more Filipinos outside the Senate impeachment court.
This comes as Vice President Sara Duterte’s defense panel spokesperson Michael Poa categorically warded off reports that the accused (Duterte) wants to speak with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
According to Poa, such a report is no more than fake news — “Fake news. Parang yung binato ako ng laptop o kung ano man, it’s also fake news. So, fake news po yan,” Poa told Senate reporters in an ambush interview.
The statement came amid ongoing proceedings in the impeachment trial of Duterte, where her defense team has been representing her before the Senate impeachment court.
When asked whether Duterte is open to meeting the President eye to eye, Poa declined to elaborate on whether Duterte had any plans to meet with Marcos.
Malacañang previously said it could not confirm reports that Duterte had allegedly sought a “private meeting” with Marcos.
“Wala po tayong makukumpirma patungkol diyan dahil wala namang binababa sa ating anumang impormasyon kung mayroon nga ganyang kaganapan. Sa ngayon, wala tayong makukumpirma,” Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said in a briefing.
