State University Grad

Long before she managed state dinners for world leaders, Comerford was a student majoring in Food Technology at the University of the Philippines in Diliman, Quezon City. 

In 1985, at the age of 23, her life took a radical turn after she emigrated to the U.S. She began her American culinary journey in Chicago, Illinois, working her way through hotel kitchens near O’Hare International Airport. 

Later, she moved to Washington, D.C., sharpening her skills at premier local establishments. 

Her relentless discipline and exceptional mastery of global flavors caught the attention of the White House, leading to her recruitment as an assistant chef in 1995 during the administration of President Bill Clinton. Shattering the Culinary Glass Ceiling.

Rising to the Pinnacle

In 2005, Comerford’s career reached a historic milestone. 

First Lady Laura Bush promoted her to White House Executive Chef, making her the first woman and the first person of Asian descent to hold the prestigious position since its official establishment under John F. Kennedy. 

For nearly 20 years in that top role, she directed a highly sophisticated culinary staff and masterfully orchestrated over 50 formal state dinners. 

Her professional longevity remains an extraordinary feat in Washington, beautifully bridging the administrations of five historic U.S. leaders. She was the White House Executive Chef under Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, Barack Obama, Donald Trump, and Joe Biden.

Secret Behind Success

What made Chef Cris unique was her ability to blend high-stakes political diplomacy with deep personal warmth. 

While she crafted elaborate five-course menus for foreign kings, queens, and prime ministers within strict 55-minute timelines, she also curated the private family meals of the presidents.
